Question

Is HPV dangerous during pregnancy?

A clear, supportive answer

In most pregnancies, HPV does not directly harm the fetus, and a positive test alone is not an indication for cesarean birth. Hormonal changes can enlarge some warts, and treatment choices are more limited because certain topical medicines should not be used. Tell your obstetric clinician about the result and avoid self-treatment. Vaccination is generally postponed until after pregnancy; if a dose was given before you knew you were pregnant, do not panic—discuss the remaining schedule with your clinician.
